Status of Diversity Programming and Core Values

At Illinois State University, diversity remains one of our core values and greatest assets. We strive to foster a welcoming campus community where all Redbirds feel a sense of belonging.

The University will not change its core values of equity, diversity, access, and belonging.

Illinois State University’s core values include equity, diversity, access, and belonging as stated in the University’s strategic plan, Excellence by Design, 2024-2030 . The University remains committed to pursuing legally appropriate initiatives that align with strategic directions, goals, and objectives as outlined in the strategic plan.

Registered Student Organization (RSO) and Affinity Group Names

RSOs and affinity groups can include race, gender, culture, identity, etc. in their name. Since Illinois State does not allow RSOs and affinity groups to discriminate. All RSOs are required to have non-discrimination clauses in their constitutions regarding member selection, programs, services, and activities.

Legal Resources

Students may contact the Students' Attorney in the Dean of Students Office about legal issues. The Students' Attorney may assist with free consultations to provide input, answer questions, and to help facilitate the legal process.

University administrators, faculty, and staff may contact the Office of General Counsel for legal advice about official University business. The Office of General Counsel is unable to provide legal advice about personal legal issues or claims adverse to the University.

Help with identifying the most appropriate legal representation: The Office of General Counsel provides legal advice to administrators, faculty, and staff regarding federal and state laws and regulations, and University policies and procedures, as well as other legal matters arising from the business operations of Illinois State University.

The Students’ Attorney and the Office of General Counsel cannot provide legal advice to students or employees about personal legal issues or to persons with claims adverse to the University.
