Current Awarding Practices

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a federal lawsuit against the State of Illinois and several public universities, including Illinois State University. The lawsuit challenges Illinois laws—namely, the 2003 Acevedo bill—which grant eligibility for providing in-state tuition and scholarships to undocumented students at several Illinois universities, including Illinois State.

As this challenge plays out in court, Illinois State’s tuition and scholarship practices will continue to align with current state laws.
